Local Tourism in Rwanda

The local tourism is still in its initial stages with few local tourists. Rwandan do not make use of the vast array of natural, cultural and historical attractions that Rwanda offers. They have to appreciate the beauty of Rwanda if they have to market it to others.

Local tourism has the potential to contribute to Rwanda’s tourism industry and to the national economy as follows;

  • The growth of local tourism will make Rwandans gain a sense of national pride which will be a catalyst for the growth of the sector.
  • Local tourism will contribute to the growth of hotels and restaurants in the country resulting in the creation of jobs and tax bases.
  • Local tourism will encourage entrepreneurs to invest in the sector.

Promotion of local tourism

The following is being done for promotion of local tourism;

  • The government is encouraging Rwandans to explore and enjoy the country’s attractions and not consider tourism as a foreigner’s concept.
  • There are aggressive awareness campaigns to make Rwandans more aware of their rich heritage.
  • Training institutions are running academic courses to produce competent resources to manage the tourism sector.
