Rwanda’s Energy Water and Sanitation Authority EWASA, planned power rationing to avert a potential energy crisis as demand for electricity peaks amid faltering supply.
- There is no enough energy for all industries in Rwanda and some industries which use a lot of electricity cannot set up in Rwanda. Industries are currently consuming about 30% of the electricity produced.
- Rwanda electricity consumption is approximately 4%.
- The increase in demand has been largely driven by new buildings, factories, street lighting and the government’s rural electricity access rollout programme that aims to connect at least 300,000 households.
