Business Environment of Burundi

Burundi is among the world’s most active economies in implementing regulatory reforms since 2012.

The country instituted four regulatory reforms in the areas of starting a business, dealing with construction permits, registering property, and trading across borders.

Between June 2012 and May 2013, more than 1625 national and foreign companies have started business in the country. Key reforms implemented in 2012-2013 cover nine indicators, namely business start ups, obtaining building permits, protecting investors, registering property, paying taxes, electricity connections, trade across borders, resolving insolvency and access to credit.

Burundi is determined to significantly reduce the time, cost and procedures required to conduct business in order to improve its ranking in the Doing Business reports and thereby increase economic growth.
