Burundi Manufacturers Association was established in Burundi in 1999 as the Industrial Association of Burundi (AIB) to defend the interests of industry against unfair competition.
Its creation was justified by the desire of manufacturers to deal separately with problems specific to industrial sector, which requires particular means of financing more important than other sectors. The AIB is dominated by Competition from State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and large private companies
The manufacturing sector occupies a very modest place ,the Association of Industrialistsare approximately 82 manufacturing companies, 45% are private companies, 28% are foreign companies and the remaining 27% being businesspublic or mixed. Almost all of their production is for the local market.
